Hi, I'm Ildiko

Welcome to the Weekend Enthusiast! A collection of travel, lifestyle, restaurant reviews and home of the Edinburgh Enthusiast.

What to do this weekend: 18-19 June

ALL WEEKEND

Leith Festival

It's the closing weekend of the Leith Festival and there is still plenty going on, including the Trainspotting Tour on Saturday and the traditional closing event, the festival tattoo on Sunday. The latter takes place right opposite the Malmaison Hotel, at the end of Tower Street.

Edinburgh Film Festival

Hopefully your EIFF tickets are already sorted and you have a full schedule of exciting films to see. If you are still unsure which one to pick this weekend, we highly recommend the Estonian film Mother. It's not your usual murder mystery movie - expect a taste of Estonian dark humour!

18TH JUNE, SATURDAY

Edinburgh Canal Festival

The Union Canal at Fountainbridge sounds like the place to be this Saturday - after a full week of rain we might even expect some sunshine, fingers crossed! Raft race heats start at 3pm with the final scheduled around 3.45pm. Before and after you can listen to choir singing, shop for arts and crafts and visit the food quarter with Harajuku Kitchen and the Counter canalboat amongst the food 'stalls'. Sign up for the Facebook event here.

Pitt Market

At the other side of town there is another great foodie event ongoing between 12-10pm. Food and drink vendors include Barnacles & Bones, Umami Spice Girl, Sweet by Frisky Froyo, Smith & Gertrude and many more. There will be also live music and hopefully sunshine. Also luckily you don't need to wait another month until the next Pitt, because it will be a weekly event until the end of July.

19TH JUNE, SUNDAY

Fathers Day

In my country we don't normally celebrate Fathers Day which sounds a bit unfair to the Fathers. Make sure you don't forget to send at least a card or call your Dad.

Dazzle Day Out

Did you know that you can now find a colourfully painted dazzle ship in the Port of Leith? This ship is already the fourth in the dazzle ship series and it's been co-commissioned with 14-18 NOW and the Edinburgh Art Festival to commemorate the First World War. MV Fingal displays the artwork of the talented Ciara Phillips. Read more about this Sunday's programme here.

Have a nice weekend!
