What to do this weekend: 4-5 November
Scottish Furniture Makers Annual Exhibition
Are you into interior design? The Scottish Furniture Makers Annual Exhibition at Custom Lane might just be your cup of tea. The exhibition features 20 Scottish based furniture makers and it is on between 4-12 November. Admission is free. Whilst there, why not visit other Custom Lane residents and have a cup of coffee at Williams & Johnson.
Mairi Helena Sample Sale
Scottish designer Mairi Helena is having a weekend sample sale at Catalog Ltd, in the heart of Stockbridge. Expect ex-display lampshades, prints and lots of velvet. You might want to arrive hungry for cakes as Lovecrumbs has just opened opposite Catalog Ltd on St Stephen Street (hint: it's a basement shop).
4TH NOVEMBER, SATURDAY
Edinburgh Festival of Wine
If you are a fellow wine enthusiast, you probably booked your tickets in advance for the Edinburgh Festival of Wine. The venue of the event is Edinburgh's landmark hotel, The Balmoral. If you missed out this year, you can plan well ahead and purchase your ticket for next year's wine festivals in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Until then, we can recommend our favourite Edinburgh wine bars: Smith & Gertrude and Good Brother's Wine Bar.
Festival of Physics
There is a brand new festival in the 'burgh, the Festival of Physics, hosted by the George Watson College. All events are free and here are my favourite picks:
- The Higgs Boson - presented by Higg's former student, Victoria Martin;
- The Physics of Gin - because I'm a gin enthusiast;
- The Colour: Science Behind the Sense;
- Superfast Cameras for the Invisible World.
5TH NOVEMBER, SUNDAY
'Remember, remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder treason and plot.
We see no reason
Why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!'
Have a nice weekend!
