Hi, I'm Ildiko

Welcome to the Weekend Enthusiast! A collection of travel, lifestyle, restaurant reviews and home of the Edinburgh Enthusiast.

What to do this weekend: 14-15 October

What to do this weekend: 14-15 October

13TH OCTOBER, FRIDAY

Buffalo House

Emily and Ronan of Fresh Revolution are popping up this autumn & winter at the Last Word Saloon in Stockbridge. The pop-up is called Buffalo House and the menu is centred around delicious and locally sourced, slow smoked buffalo brisket. We were kindly invited to their launch event to sample the menu and will be certainly coming back for more of their yummy food. Visit Buffalo House at the Last Word from Tuesdays to Fridays between 5.30pm and 10pm.

ALL WEEKEND

Evening of ghosts and ghouls

Have you heard of the Blair Street Underground Vaults? They are located under the arches of South Bridge, said to be one of the most haunted sites in the 'burgh. October seems the perfect time to visit - Mercat Tours run regular tours to the vaults, one of these is called 'Evening of ghosts and ghouls'.

With Halloween approaching soon, you might want to book in advance one of their special tours: Spirits of Halloween, Newhailes Halloween or the Georgian House Halloween. Check the full list of tours here.

14TH OCTOBER, SATURDAY

Edinburgh Coffee Festival

Are you a fellow coffee enthusiast and love your 'Sunday roast' in the form of freshly roasted coffee beans? You will be pleased to hear that the Edinburgh Coffee Festival is back for the third year at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange this Saturday. Tickets are available online until Friday but you can also get them on the door on Saturday (cash only). Exhibitors include Brew Lab, Cairngorm Coffee, Fortitude Coffee, PekoeTea and Williams & Johnson.

Handlettering @byrachelbrown

Rachel of @byrachelbrown is having a wee handlettering exhibition at the Newington Library (17 Fountainhall Road). You can visit it between 10am and 5pm on Saturdays and also during the week until the end of October. Worth noting Rachel's lettering can be personalised and made bespoke - perfect for a new baby present or marking an anniversary. You might have spotted this week's photo, a lovely autumny handlettering she has kindly created for us. You can contact her via her website.

Epitome's 5th Birthday

Epitome on Dundas Street is celebrating its 5th birthday and will be unveiling the autumn/winter 2017 collection. Pop in between 10am and 6pm on Saturday. (The event is also on Thursday and Friday.)

15TH OCTOBER, SUNDAY

Family Open Day at the Lyceum

This Sunday between 10am and 4pm the Lyceum Theatre is hosting a Family Open Day. Expect craft activities, storytelling, backstage tours and drama workshops. The event is free but booking is required for tours and workshops. Booking opens 30 minutes before the advertised start time at The Lyceum Box Office.
