What to do this weekend: 30 June-1 July
3 Harbours Art Festival
How about a daytrip to East Lothian? The annual celebration of art, the 3 Harbours Art Festival kicks off this weekend in the harbour towns of Cockenzie, Port Seton and Prestonpans. The programme features a wide range of events from art and music to guided walks and various workshops. Make sure to visit the lovely Cockenzie House and Gardens and the hidden gem Chalmers Memorial Church.
If you're in the East Lothian area on Saturday, have your lunch at the Canteen Street Food Festival held at the Archerfield Walled Garden. This month's Canteen will also feature salsa and vintage cars, yay!
Buff Pop-up at Custom Lane
In desperate need of getting your nails done? The girls from the Buff Concept Store of Waverley Arches are popping up all weekend at Leith's Custom Lane. They have teamed up with Soo Burnell photographer who will be exhibiting her lovely prints and the Dahlia home goods store from Marchmont.
30TH JUNE, SATURDAY
National Art Pass Trial
Today is your to last chance to purchase your 3 month trial National Art Pass, as part of the Art Fund's special offer. For just £10 you can enjoy free or reduced entry to a wide range of museums across the whole country. The offer could not have been timed better, ahead of the upcoming Edinburgh Art Festival exhibitions such as Emil Nolde at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art or Jupiter Artland. As a pass holder you can enter to Jupiter for free and visit the Nolde exhibition for half price. I've done the maths using the full time ticket prices and if you're only visiting these two places, you're already saving. So it's pretty much a no brainer - go and get it! (I'm not sponsored, just love art.)
Oro Gin at The Ivy on the Square
Talking about limited offers, it's also your last chance this Saturday to taste the two exclusive Oro Gin cocktails created especially for World Gin Day - The Melville and The Multrees. Make sure to pop in to The Ivy On The Square summer terrace and sip your cocktails while (hopefully) enjoying some Scottish sunshine. Sounds like the perfect plan for a relaxed Saturday afternoon!
1ST JULY, SUNDAY
Swimming with men
Ladies (and gentlemen), please keep reading - this is not a male only swimming event at your local pool, but the title of the Closing Gala movie at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. I don't know about you, but I absolutely love Rob Brydon since watching him in the popular sitcom Gavin & Stacey. He is starring in this new British comedy, Swimming with men, and I am very much looking forward to watching it. Check out the trailer here. If you missed out on the Film Fest Closing Gala tickets, don't worry, the movie is coming to all UK cinemas from 6 July.
Stockbridge Duck Race
If you don't feel like 'swimming with men', head to Stockbridge to watch the annual duck race kicking off at 3pm. Did you know that this will be the 29th duck race and all the money raised by selling the racing rubber ducks goes towards charity? The 2018 charities are The Yard and St Columba's Hospice. If you would like to support a good cause, you can buy ducks at local shops for just £2. Find the full list of shops here.
Have a nice weekend!
