What to do this weekend: 14-15 July
If you followed our Instagram stories at @edienthusiast, you already got a sneak peak of the delicious menu and stunning interiors of Hawksmoor Edinburgh. After extensive renovation works the restaurant is finally open to the public, and we highly recommend checking out the space which used to be the banking hall of the Royal Bank of Scotland. As for food recommendation, we loved the scallop starter, both the rump steak and lobster mains (of course with mac'n'cheese on the side) and the heavenly pineapple and coconut pavlova dessert.
Caorunn Gin Garden
One of our favourite Scottish gins, Caorunn has recently opened a pop-up summer gin garden at Hotel du Vin. It's the perfect hidden retreat to enjoy cocktails and al fresco dining in the city centre, especially while these balmy summer's evenings last (but don't worry, they have blankets for cooler evenings). The garden is open between 11am and 11pm until mid-September with free entry. Oh and our pick is the classic Caorunn G&T which comes with Fever Tree Tonic and slices of red apple. Cheers!
The 10 days long Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival kicks off this weekend. Highlights include: their popular free Mardi Gras event at Grassmarket between 1-4pm this Saturday, Shreveport Rhytm from Hamburg and the New Wave of Scottish Jazz amongst others. Check out the full programme here.
14TH JULY, SATURDAY
Nurture Nature, Eat Series
Back in May we attended a very special dinner with Mr Enthusiast - I even wrote up a blog post about it, which you can read here. This weekend Buck & Birch, our favourite foragers and cooks, the guys behind the pretty special Aelder Elixir are hosting again a 7 course dinner at Portobello's Dalriada. If you fancy going along, you can book your tickets via Eventbrite. We have been to multiple Buck & Birch dinners in the past and can thoroughly recommend the experience!
You might be familiar with Hatti Pattisson's work and her beautifully colourful patterns, if you shopped at Pad Lifestyle or attended one of Hatti's cushion making workshop back in May. She's having an exhibition at the Out of the Blue Drill Hall which closes this Saturday. Make sure to pop in to see her collection of land and seascapes of views in Scotland.
15TH JULY, SUNDAY
Emil Nolde: Colour is life
How about some art this Sunday? This weekend a new Nolde exhibition is opening at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art and I could not be more excited! I first met Emil Nolde's work in Austria while visiting my cousin about 16 years ago. Time has flown by, and I still clearly remember we spent several hours in that Austrian gallery admiring the colourful paintings. And the good news: if you own an Art Fund National Art Pass, you get half price entry to this exhibition.
Have a nice weekend!
