What to do this weekend: 22-23 September
Fourth Weekend of Doors Open Days
September is the month of Doors Open Days is Scotland and although the Edinburgh version is not until the very end of the month, there is plenty on offer - making it the perfect excuse for a daytrip/long weekend away from the 'burgh. This weekend's participating regions include: Argyll & Bute, Badenoch & Strathspey, Moray, Strathearn & Kinross-shire and Orkney. Our picks are:
- Mackintosh's Hill House in Helensburgh - this Doors Open Days event will be the last chance to see the exterior of the house before the planned conservation work commences.
- The Argyll Papers near Inveraray Castle, a court of offices with a hint of an Italian Palladian villa.
- Nelson's Tower - a 19th tower with fantastic views over the Forres.
Annual Colony of Artists
During this weekend the artists of the Abbeyhill colonies will open their homes to the public as part of the annual Colony of Artists fest. Expect various forms of arts including painting, drawing, photography, mixed media and music - browse the full programme here. While at the colonies, why not pop in to the Century General Store which will be also hosting some special events.
