What to do this weekend: 26-27 January
Burns & Beyond
This weekend is all about celebrating the heritage of Rabbie Burns, the great Scottish poet. Burns & Beyond is a brand new festival dedicated to the bard’s birthday and bringing you a wide range of events - from whisky tasting with Johnnie Walker to Kindness Lane. I particularly look forward to visiting the Museum of the Moon which features a giant moon at St Giles’ Cathedral, a touring artwork by UK artist Luke Jerram.
You probably find that most Edinburgh restaurants will offer a special Burns themed menu, here is the selection of them:
- Scotch Malt Whisky Society - there’s no better place to raise a cask strength dram to the bard. While there don’t forget to show this advert and claim your prize when making any purchase.
- Royal Yacht Britannia - the traditional Burns night will of course feature Britannia’s piper.
26TH JANUARY, SATURDAY
Artisan Burns Night
The recently renovated beautiful historic property, Riddle’s Court is hosting an evening of music themed around the Scottish poet. The event features the Artisan Ensemble and Hannah Rarity, Traditional Young Musician of the Year 2018. Buy your tickets via Eventbrite.
27TH JANUARY, SUNDAY
Sunday Classics at Usher Hall
This Sunday’s concert at the Usher Hall will feature the St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra - they will bring you the tunes of the brilliant composers, Rachmaninov and Mahler. Check out the full programme of the 2019 Sunday Classic season and book your tickets here.
Have a nice weekend!
